New ring road to combat traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack
Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: A new ring road is set to be constructed to alleviate severe traffic congestion in the cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Odisha.
This announcement was made by senior BJP leader and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi during the inauguration of the highly anticipated Hansapal flyover in the capital city.
Sarangi stated that a 111-km-long Capital Region Ring Road will be built to tackle the increasing volume of vehicles and the resulting traffic issues in both cities.
The proposed ring road will link Rameswar in Khurda district to Tangi in Cuttack district, traversing key locations such as Khurda town, Bhubaneswar, Athagarh, Cuttack city, and Choudwar. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will oversee the project, which is estimated to cost around Rs 6,500 crore. The NHAI has already commenced the tendering process for the construction of the six-lane access-controlled ring road.
Additionally, Sarangi inaugurated the Hansapal flyover on National Highway-16. The 600-meter-long flyover, constructed at a cost of Rs 24 crore over five years, is anticipated to significantly enhance traffic flow between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack along NH-16.
