BSE Odisha assures fair evaluation after science paper error

Bhubaneswar, March 1: Class X students appearing for the High School Certificate (HSC) examinations conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, were left shocked after discovering a major error in the Science Set-C question paper.

According to reports, students found that a four-mark question was missing from their paper, reducing the total marks from the prescribed 50 to just 46. This discrepancy led to confusion and anxiety among examinees. Teachers and students immediately brought the issue to the attention of the authorities, prompting BSE to initiate a review of the error.

Addressing concerns, BSE President Srikant Tarai assured students that the mistake would not impact their final scores. “Although the question was missing, it will not adversely affect students. We will consider this issue during the evaluation process to ensure fair assessment,” he stated.

The incident has raised questions about the board’s examination paper-setting process, with many urging stricter quality checks to prevent such errors in the future. Meanwhile, BSE has pledged to take corrective measures and ensure transparency in evaluations.
