Spurned lover hacks teenage girl to death in Ganjam

Bhubaneswar, May 1: In a horrifying incident, a 17-year-old girl, Priti Sahu, was brutally hacked to death by a youth in Karapalli village under Gopalpur police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday morning.

The accused, identified as Munna Khan from the Jatni area of Khurda district, allegedly committed the crime in a fit of rage after being rejected by the victim. According to police sources, Munna barged into Priti’s house while she was alone and attacked her with a sabaḷa—a heavy rod-like tool—and later slit her wrist with a blade.

Priti’s parents, who were away managing their eatery at the time, returned to find their daughter lying in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the police, who reached the scene, sent the body for postmortem, and detained Munna for questioning. The murder weapons have been seized.

The victim’s family revealed that Munna had been stalking and harassing Priti for months. Despite an earlier police complaint and a village-level intervention, no strict action was taken. Notably, Priti and Munna’s sister were classmates at Berhampur ITI.
