Odisha to launch Ayushman Bharat and Gopabandhu Yojana in February 2025

Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling announced on Monday that the Odisha government plans to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri – Jan Arogya Yojana and the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY) in February 2025.
During a press briefing, Dr. Mahaling stated that a major announcement regarding these initiatives will be made in the new year, emphasizing that approximately 3.5 crore residents in Odisha will receive individual health cards, ensuring that no one is excluded from the health insurance schemes. A Central team has already conducted a survey for the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana in the state.
Additionally, the state government aims to expand the number of medical and nursing colleges next year. An MoU will be signed to facilitate the implementation of Ayushman Bharat alongside the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana, which aims to provide free healthcare services to economically vulnerable families.
Beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat can access services worth up to ₹5 lakh, while those under GJAY will have coverage of ₹5 lakh in rural areas and ₹6 lakh in urban areas, replacing the previous Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY).
