Odisha suspends internet in Bhadrak after youth’s death

Bhubaneswar, June 12: The Odisha government has suspended internet services for 24 hours in five areas of Bhadrak district—Bhadrak Municipality, Bhadrak Block, Dhamnagar NAC, Dhamnagar Block, and Tihidi Block—beginning 6 am on Thursday, following rising tensions after the death of a youth injured in a communal clash.
The deceased, Santosh Parida (46) from Kasati village under Tihidi block, was critically injured in an attack allegedly carried out by individuals involved in illegal cattle trafficking on May 30. He had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for two weeks but succumbed to his injuries around 2 pm on Wednesday.
To prevent further unrest and the spread of misinformation, the administration imposed the temporary suspension of mobile internet. Bhadrak SP Manoj Rout confirmed that 12 individuals, including the main accused, have been arrested in connection with the incident. He assured that the situation is currently under control and urged the public to cooperate in maintaining peace.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ex-gratia of ₹10 lakh for Parida’s family along with employment assistance to one family member, emphasizing the government’s commitment to justice and communal harmony.
