Odisha Govt sanctions ₹2.25 crore incentive for daitapati servitors ahead of Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar, June 6: In a move to ensure smooth conduct of the annual Rath Yatra, the Odisha government has sanctioned ₹2.25 crore as a special incentive for the Daitapati servitors of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. The decision was based on a proposal submitted by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

According to an official communication from the Law Department to the SJTA Chief Administrator, the incentive will serve as a “special reward” for the disciplined and dedicated service of the Daitas during the world-renowned festival. The amount will be initially drawn from SJTA funds and later reimbursed through special grants in the upcoming supplementary budget.

While the Daitas welcomed the gesture, several other categories of temple servitors expressed hope that similar incentives would be considered for all who contribute during the deities’ annual sojourn.

During a recent preparatory meeting, Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh announced additional plans for the festival, including live broadcasting and cultural performances. The Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department will also set up temporary information kiosks across Puri to assist pilgrims and ensure smooth flow of information during the mega event.
