Forensic reports reveal multiple firearms used in former Minister Naba Das murder

Bhubaneswar, Jan 18: New details have emerged in the investigation into the murder of former BJD minister Naba Das, revealing that multiple firearms were utilized in the incident. This development raises concerns about the involvement of additional shooters beyond the prime suspect, Gopal Das.

Forensic reports indicate that one bullet struck Naba Das, while five others hit a government vehicle accompanying him, challenging the initial belief that only one person was responsible for the shooting. The findings suggest a broader conspiracy behind the assassination.

Defense attorney Naresh Nayak has raised the possibility that a sniper may have been involved, given the precision of the attack. On January 29, 2023, the Crime Branch's chargesheet noted that Naba Das was traveling to Brajarajnagar Gandhi Chowk in two separate vehicles, with his aides following in a different car. During the investigation, authorities recovered a magazine containing 18 bullets and three unfired rounds from Gopal Das.

While it was reported that six bullets were involved in the incident, forensic evidence reveals inconsistencies, particularly with the second vehicle—a white Toyota Innova—found with five bullet holes but lacking shell casings. This discrepancy prompts further investigation into the trajectory and origin of the shots.
