Dense fog and cold wave sweep Odisha, night temperatures set to rise gradually

Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of dense fog at one or two places in Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Kalahandi districts, expected to persist till Sunday morning. The IMD has also forecast a gradual rise in night temperatures by 2–4°C over the next four days, followed by relatively stable conditions thereafter.

Meanwhile, there is no expected impact of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah on Odisha. The system is projected to move north-northwestwards across the Sri Lanka coast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, reaching near North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh coasts by the early morning of November 30.

With the ongoing cold wave, Jharsuguda and Angul recorded minimum temperatures of 9.2°C and 9.6°C, respectively, a sharp drop of 5.1°C from normal. G. Udaygiri in Kandhamal was the coldest at 5.4°C, followed by Semiliguda (8.1°C), Phulbani and Daringbadi (8.5°C each), and Bhawanipatna (9.8°C). Even the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded below-normal temperatures of 14.3°C and 13.6°C.

Other regions witnessing sub-15°C temperatures include Koraput (10°C), Rourkela (10.1°C), Chipilima (10.4°C), Kirei (10.6°C), Balangir and Sundargarh (11.2°C each), Keonjhar (11.8°C), Dhenkanal (12°C), Sonepur (12.4°C), Sambalpur (12.8°C), Nabarangpur and Titlagarh (13.2°C), Hirakud (14°C), Ranital (14.1°C), Nayagarh (14.2°C), Baripada (14.5°C), and Boudh (14.8°C). Residents are advised to take precautions during early mornings and late nights amid cold and foggy conditions.
