SOA leaders urge compassionate veterinary care, recognizing animals' emotions
Bhubaneswar, May 17: Saswati Das, Vice-President of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA), emphasized the importance of treating animals and birds with compassion, highlighting that these creatures understand the language of love, even if they cannot express their emotions. Her remarks came during her address as the chief guest at ‘Vetrix-2024’, the annual event of the Institute of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (IVSAH), part of SOA's faculty of veterinary sciences.
Speaking as the guest of honor at the event, Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, underscored the institution's commitment to animal welfare by establishing medical college hospitals and a corporate hospital dedicated to treating animals and birds in addition to those catering to humans.
Prof. Brahmadev Patnaik, Dean of IVSAH, and Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das, Dean (Students’ Welfare), also addressed the gathering. Prof. Patnaik emphasized the connection between animal and bird health and the broader issues of food and health security on the planet. He highlighted that approximately 70% of human diseases stem from animals.
During the event, Prof. Susanta Kumar Das, Associate Dean of the institution, presented the annual report, while Prof. Pritisha Srivastav, Associate Professor, extended the vote of thanks. Ms. Das also distributed prizes to students who participated in various competitions held earlier as part of the event.
