CRUT terminates driver and conductor for alcohol use on duty

Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: In response to a grave safety violation, Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has terminated the employment of a driver and conductor after they were found to be under the influence of alcohol while on duty. The incident occurred on Thursday night during a random check conducted by the enforcement team, which revealed both individuals were intoxicated.

Additionally, two other staff members were suspended for two months due to disciplinary issues during their duty hours.

This breach not only endangers passenger safety but also contradicts the fundamental values of CRUT, which emphasizes safe, reliable, and efficient public transport. As part of the disciplinary action, CRUT has also recommended a six-month suspension of the driver’s license.

Ensuring passenger safety is CRUT’s top priority, and any actions that threaten this safety will not be tolerated. To prevent future incidents, CRUT is implementing stronger safety protocols, including more frequent random alcohol tests for staff, enhanced driver training, behavioral workshops for crew, and tighter monitoring of operational procedures.
