Commissionerate Police arrest fraudster for marital deceptions

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3: Commissionerate Police today arrested 36-year-old Satyajit Samal on charges of deceiving multiple women under the guise of marriage. Samal, originally from Jajpur, exploited a matrimonial website by posing as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer to lure victims.

Samal's scheme involved building trust with women through online chats before requesting cash and vehicles. Once he had obtained these assets, he would flee to Dubai, leaving his victims financially devastated and emotionally distraught.

The arrest was challenging due to Samal's frequent flights to Dubai. Police executed a strategic trap, with a female officer engaging Samal to apprehend him. During the arrest, authorities discovered Rs 2 lakh in cash, several vehicles, and a bank account with over Rs 1 lakh, which has now been frozen.

According to complaints filed at the Capital Police station, Samal defrauded two women of a total of Rs 44 lakh, a car, and a bullet. The first victim lost Rs 36 lakh and a car, while the second was swindled out of Rs 8 lakh and a bullet. Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda reported that Samal had been interacting with 49 other women on the same site and had two marriage agreements in his possession. The accused primarily targeted divorcees, extracting cash and vehicles before relocating to Dubai.
