AICC appoints Bhakta Charan Das as Odisha Congress President

Bhubaneswar, Feb 11: Senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das has been appointed as the new president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC), the All India Congress Committee (AICC) announced today through an official notification. His appointment comes at a crucial time as the party looks to revamp its organizational structure and strengthen its presence in Odisha.

Bhakta Charan Das, a seasoned politician and former Union Minister, has held several key positions in the Congress party over the years. In March 2024, he was appointed as the chairman of the Odisha campaign committee to lead the party’s election strategies. However, following the Congress party’s disappointing performance in the elections, he stepped down from the role in June 2024, accepting moral responsibility for the results.

The OPCC had been functioning without a president since July 2024, when the AICC dissolved all office-bearers due to electoral setbacks. With Das at the helm, the party is expected to focus on restructuring its leadership, strengthening grassroots connections, and preparing for future political challenges in the state.
