Odisha CM declares September 9 as holiday to for Nuakhai

Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has declared September 9 as a public holiday in Odisha to celebrate the state's major agrarian festival, Nuakhai.

This decision follows the festival's observation on September 8, which falls on a Sunday. As a result, the government has extended the holiday to the following day to ensure a longer period of celebration for the people.

On September 9, all government offices, magisterial courts, and educational institutions across the state will remain closed. This move is intended to allow residents to fully partake in the traditional festivities and cultural activities associated with Nuakhai.

The festival, which marks the harvest season and is deeply rooted in Odia culture, involves various rituals and community gatherings. By extending the holiday, the government aims to honor this significant event and facilitate a broader participation in the celebrations.
