Kashmiri man arrested in Odisha over 'Love Jihad' allegations
Bhubaneswar, Nov 9: In a significant update to the alleged 'love jihad' case, a Kashmiri man who was detained by the police after a woman accused him of coercing her into religious conversion and marriage, was arrested on Saturday.
The accused, Samir Mansoor, was brought before the court after undergoing a medical examination. Authorities also seized his mobile phone, which has been sent for forensic analysis.
Earlier that day, police recorded the victim's statement and conducted her medical examination. The victim, a woman from Jagatsinghpur, had lodged a complaint at the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar, accusing Mansoor of pressuring her to convert to his religion and marry him. She also alleged that he had threatened to share intimate video clips of them online.
Following the woman's complaint, police registered a case and apprehended Mansoor while he attempted to leave Odisha by train. Mansoor, who claimed to be from Bihar, is currently residing in Kashmir. According to the victim's FIR, she had met Mansoor through an online game in 2022, unaware of his religious background at the time.
