Bitti Hottra Mohanty, convicted in rape case and son of ex-DGP, dies

Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: Bitti Hottra Mohanty, son of Odisha’s former DGP Bidya Bhusan Mohanty, has died at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. Mohanty, who was serving a sentence for the 2006 rape of a German tourist in Alwar, Rajasthan, succumbed to stomach cancer early Monday morning.
According to hospital sources, Mohanty had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS since June, following a period of bleeding. He had been admitted for supportive care and passed away around midnight.
Mohanty was convicted by the Fast Track Trial Court in Alwar within 15 days of his arrest on April 12, 2006. After his conviction, he went on the run after requesting parole on health grounds. He was later apprehended in 2013 in Kerala, where he was found to have used forged documents to obtain a job at a bank in Thiruvananthapuram.
