Subhadra Yojana set for launch by PM Modi on his birthday in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Odisha on September 17, where he will officially launch the Subhadra Yojana on the occasion of his birthday. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Sunday that PM Modi has confirmed his participation in the event, which coincides with his birthday.

"The BJP government in Odisha is committed to fulfilling its election promises, and empowering women in the state is a top priority. The Subhadra Yojana is a significant initiative towards achieving this goal," Pradhan stated.

On August 23, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi outlined the guidelines for the implementation of the Subhadra Yojana. Under this scheme, eligible women aged 21 to 60 will receive an annual amount of Rs. 10,000, distributed in two instalments of Rs. 5,000 each, on Rakhi Purnima and International Women's Day (March 8). Over a five-year period, each beneficiary will receive a total of Rs. 50,000.

To maintain transparency, the payments will be directly credited to the beneficiaries' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS). Beneficiaries will also receive a SUBHADRA Debit Card. Additionally, to encourage digital transactions, the top 100 digital transactors in each Gram Panchayat and Urban Local Body will receive a bonus of Rs. 500.

The scheme is targeted at economically disadvantaged women and excludes those from affluent families, government employees, or high-income taxpayers. Women who are already receiving more than Rs. 1,500 per month or Rs. 18,000 annually from other government schemes will also be ineligible.
