Odisha braces for heavy rainfall: IMD issues warnings for next three days

Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional office in Bhubaneswar has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha over the next three days.

On Wednesday, the IMD issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in nine districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur. Rainfall of 70 mm to 110 mm is expected in these areas.

Further yellow alerts for rain have been issued for five districts on Thursday, six on Friday, and five on Saturday. The weather office attributes the expected rainfall to an active monsoon low-pressure system in the state, along with cyclonic circulations over north-east Madhya Pradesh, north-east Rajasthan, Bangladesh, and Jharkhand.

Coastal Odisha is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 34°C. The IMD advises residents to stay updated on weather conditions and take precautions to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
