IMD issues heatwave warning for Odisha, temperatures set to soar

Bhubaneswar. March 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Odisha, predicting soaring temperatures over the next three days. The warning comes as temperatures continue to rise across several districts, with some areas expected to touch 40°C.

A yellow warning has been issued for Sambalpur and Boudh on Thursday. On Friday, the warning extends to Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, and Kalahandi, while on Saturday, it will cover Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Bargarh, and Sundargarh.

According to the IMD’s midday bulletin, both day and night temperatures are likely to rise by 2-4°C over the next three days, with no significant change afterward. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are also expected to experience temperatures touching 40°C during this period.

Additionally, light rain or thundershowers may occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh on April 2.

On Wednesday, Boudh recorded the highest temperature at 39.8°C, followed by Jharsuguda (39.5°C), Hirakud (39.1°C), and Sambalpur and Balangir (39°C each).
