DGP orders immediate action against 'hooligans' in assault of Army officer
Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: The situation involving the alleged mistreatment of an Indian Army officer and his partner at the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar seems to be moving toward resolution. Bhubaneswar DGP YB Khurania has mandated a comprehensive investigation into the conduct of the "roadside romeos" who reportedly attacked and abused the couple.
The incident began when a group of individuals harassed the couple, using offensive language and making threats. Matters escalated when Bharatpur police allegedly refused to file a complaint based on the Army Major's report.
Following these allegations, DGP Khurania has instructed the police to formally register the complaint and promptly arrest the individuals responsible for the harassment. The Army Major has claimed that the assailants also assaulted his partner while they were en route from her workplace in Bhubaneswar.
The DGP has promised that all perpetrators will be identified and face strict legal action. Despite the couple providing the registration number of one vehicle, the initial response from the police was unsatisfactory, with officers allegedly insisting on a written complaint before taking action.
Tensions increased when the couple requested immediate apprehension of the offenders, resulting in a heated argument. The situation reportedly worsened when the Army officer’s partner was allegedly taken to a separate room, where she was stripped, molested, and assaulted. The officer was reportedly detained, manhandled, and held for over ten hours. The couple was allegedly pressured into issuing an apology before being released, following the intervention of senior Army officials.
