Devdas Chhotray honoured with 46th Sarala Puraskar for short story collection ‘Matinee Show’

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: Noted poet and fiction writer Devdas Chhotray has been conferred with the 46th Sarala Puraskar, instituted by the Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), for his acclaimed short-story collection ‘Matinee Show’. The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to Odia literature, carries a cash prize of ₹7 lakh, a copper plaque, and a citation. The honour was presented to Chhotray by eminent Hindi poet and writer Prof. Savita Singh.

On the occasion, renowned Odissi musician and vocalist Guru Ramhari Das and celebrated painter Baladev Maharatha were felicitated with the Ila-Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman. Both received a citation, plaque, and ₹2.5 lakh each.

Addressing the gathering, Trustee Mrs. Paramita Panda praised Chhotray’s storytelling for transforming simple life experiences into extraordinary reflections, upholding the essence of Odia Asmita. Chief Guest Prof. Savita Singh lauded Chhotray’s works for blending beauty, love, and social consciousness, enriching world literature.

Expressing gratitude, Chhotray said he writes “to ease the pain of passing time.” Founded in 1974 by Dr. Bansidhar Panda and Mrs. Ila Panda, IMPaCT has played a pivotal role in promoting Odia literature through the Sarala Puraskar, Kala Samman, and Ekalabya Puraskar.
