Cyclone Montha set to hit Andhra coast near Kakinada on October 28: IMD
Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Cyclone Montha, currently active over the southeast Bay of Bengal, will rapidly intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay by the morning of October 28. The system is expected to bring strong winds of 90–100 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 110 kmph, posing a significant threat to coastal regions.
According to Weather Scientist Uma Shankar Das, the cyclone is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Kalingapatnam and Machilipatnam, near Kakinada, between the evening and night of October 28. He shared this crucial update on his X handle, warning of potential heavy rainfall, high tidal waves, and rough sea conditions along the coastal areas.
The IMD has advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the southwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal, as well as along and off the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha, until October 29. Those already at sea have been urged to return to safety immediately, as the storm may cause disruptions to maritime activities and coastal settlements.
