AIIMS Bhubaneswar lab assistant shot dead; three detained as probe intensifies

Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: In a shocking incident on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, a lab assistant of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, identified as Sudhanshu Khuntia, was shot dead near Sarkantara village late on Sunday night. The Commissionerate Police have detained three suspects and launched a detailed investigation into the case.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred when Khuntia was returning home after completing his night shift at AIIMS. Unidentified assailants intercepted him and fired a bullet into his lower left chest, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle and crash. Though he was immediately rushed to AIIMS in critical condition, doctors declared him brought dead.

Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Dutta Singh informed that a case has been registered, and multiple teams are working to uncover the motive behind the killing. He added that based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family, members of his uncle’s family are suspected to be involved. Some of them also sustained injuries during the confrontation. The Commissioner assured that the case would be solved soon, and the culprits will face strict legal action once the investigation is complete.
