Winter weather strikes Odisha as night temperatures fall sharply

Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: Odisha is currently experiencing a significant drop in night temperatures, with a decrease of 4°C to 5°C reported in just one day on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that minimum temperatures fell below 15°C in 13 cities across the state.

Although winter officially began in late November, a combination of cloudy skies and light rainfall in early December had caused a temporary increase in temperatures.

Keonjhar and Angul reported a 5°C drop in temperatures, while Jharsuguda recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 10.8°C. In Bhubaneswar, the minimum temperature fell to 18.2°C, which is a 3°C decline from Tuesday's readings. Other notable temperatures included 12.6°C in Koraput, 13.1°C in Bhawanipatna, and 14.8°C in Talcher.

The weather department forecasts that night temperatures are unlikely to change significantly over the next four to five days, with further drops expected. This decline has also led to an increase in fog conditions throughout the state, impacting visibility.
