SUM Hospital Psychiatrist crowned Mrs. Universe Global 2025 in Manila

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: Dr. Swayam Prava Baral, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) and SUM Hospital, Campus-2, Phulnakhara, has been crowned Mrs. Universe Global 2025 at the prestigious Mrs. Universe Official Pageant held recently in Manila, Philippines.

Along with the coveted crown, Dr. Baral received the ‘Best in Forum’ award for her impactful advocacy on mental health and human rights, earning her international recognition as a Global Human Rights Ambassador.

Representing India, Dr. Baral impressed the world with her eloquence, intellect, and compassion, showcasing the country’s cultural richness with dignity and pride. Her stirring speech at the human rights forum, titled “Mental Health as a Fundamental Human Right,” drew a standing ovation and was widely acclaimed as one of the most compelling presentations of the event.

“This crown belongs to every woman ever told she is too much or not enough. Mental health is not a privilege—it’s a right. My mission is to ensure every voice in pain finds dignity, access, and hope,” Dr. Baral said after receiving the honor.

On Thursday, Dr. Baral visited Prof. (Dr.) Manojranjan Nayak, Founder President of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University, which manages IMS and SUM Hospital, Campus-2. Prof. Nayak congratulated her on her achievement and wished her continued success. Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Lenka, Medical Superintendent, was also present.

A psychiatrist, author, WHO Fides Influencer, and founder of Swayam Mind Clinic and Wellness Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Baral has been a strong advocate for emotional wellness, women’s empowerment, and gender equality. Her bestselling book, 30 Days to a Healthy Mind, along with initiatives such as The Confident Me Challenge and The Ambitious Woman Project, have inspired countless individuals.

From her early work as Senior Resident and Assistant Professor at the Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi, to her current global role, Dr. Baral’s journey exemplifies resilience, purpose, and unwavering commitment to human rights. As Global Human Rights Ambassador, she plans to launch international collaborations promoting mental health literacy, de-stigmatization, human rights, and world peace.
