Fresh low-pressure area likely over Bay of Bengal; IMD issues weather alert for Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of a new low-pressure area over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal on Friday, which could bring significant weather changes over eastern and coastal India, particularly in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
According to the IMD’s latest bulletin, the system is expected to develop under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation that currently persists over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea, extending up to middle tropospheric levels. The developing system is likely to move west-northwestwards and could intensify further into a well-marked low-pressure area or even a depression within the next 24 hours.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring the system’s path and intensity to determine whether it may evolve into a cyclonic storm. If the system strengthens, it could lead to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in coastal and southern Odisha early next week.
The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into deep sea areas and urged residents in southern Odisha to stay alert and follow official weather bulletins for timely updates and precautionary measures.
