SJTA approves Ratna Bhandar inspection SOP, discusses land management

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: The Shree Jagannatha Temple Managing Committee today approved the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for inspecting the Ratna Bhandar of the 12th-century shrine.

Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), detailed that the committee reviewed several proposals, focusing particularly on the SOP for Ratna Bhandar. He noted that the gold ornaments from both the Bhitara and Bahara Ratna Bhandar have been temporarily moved to a secure strong room. The meeting also addressed the relocation of old almirahs and chests and the use of scientific methods for the inspection.

Padhee explained that the SOP has been approved by the committee and will be forwarded to the State government for final authorization.

Additionally, the committee reviewed the 'Draft Shree Jagannath Temple Land Management Rules 2024,' which will be submitted to the State government for approval before implementation.

The meeting also discussed the 35 air-conditioned e-buses provided by the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC) to the SJTA. It was decided that the State government should transfer these buses to the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) or another agency for management.

The issue of ‘Arpan Rice’ was also addressed. The managing committee has authorized the SJTA Chief Administrator and the Puri Collector to resolve this matter through discussions with temple servitor bodies and propose a final decision to the government.

Finally, a committee, including the district Collector and SP, will be formed to ensure that devotees can have a smooth darshan experience. This committee will liaise with sevayat bodies and address any logistical or infrastructural needs as required.
