Odia film Daman named best Odia film at 70th National Film Awards

Bhubaneswar, Aug 16: The film Daman, starring Babushaan Mohanty, was honored as the Best Odia Film at the 70th National Film Awards, announced on Friday.

This accolade comes with a Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. Directed and written by Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka, Daman premiered on November 4, 2022. The movie tells the compelling story of a doctor battling local superstitions to educate tribal communities about malaria in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

It has achieved significant success, becoming the highest-grossing Odia film to date, and was declared tax-free by the Odisha government.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting disclosed the winners in New Delhi. The awards ceremony, which will also recognize the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, is scheduled to be held in October, where President Droupadi Murmu will present the honors.
