New Delhi, May 15: In a tragic late-night road accident on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, two engineering students lost their lives while five others sustained critical injuries after the SUV they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck on Chandaka-Bhola Road on Thursday night.
According to reports, seven persons were travelling in the SUV when the accident occurred. The vehicle reportedly rammed into an oncoming truck with tremendous force, leaving the front portion of the SUV completely mangled. Several occupants, including the engineering students, became trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle following the collision.
Local residents and passersby rushed to the spot soon after hearing the loud crash and immediately informed the police and fire services. Fire service personnel reached the accident site and launched a difficult rescue operation. Using gas cutters and specialised equipment, rescuers managed to free the trapped victims from the wreckage after considerable effort.
Two engineering students succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while the remaining five occupants suffered serious injuries. The injured were rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment, where some are stated to be in critical condition.
Police have started an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Officials are examining whether overspeeding, negligence or poor visibility contributed to the fatal collision.
