Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: The Odisha government on Friday credited the fifth instalment of Rs 5,000 under its flagship Subhadra scheme to the bank accounts of around 1.03 crore women beneficiaries across the state on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the disbursement at Lathipada in Nayagarh district, with a total of Rs 5,160 crore being transferred to beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.
According to officials, the latest round of financial assistance also includes 2.21 lakh women who were newly enrolled under the scheme. The government has taken steps to ensure that the funds are transferred smoothly and beneficiaries do not face difficulties in accessing the assistance.
Ahead of the disbursement, the state government had directed officials and representatives of the concerned banks to complete the DBT process within the prescribed timeframe. Banks were also instructed to strengthen their arrangements and facilitate hassle-free receipt of the financial assistance by beneficiaries.
The Subhadra scheme is one of the Odisha government’s flagship welfare initiatives, aimed at providing financial assistance to eligible women across the state. Under the scheme, monetary benefits are transferred directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
The disbursement programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, Khandapada MLA Dusmanta Kumar Swain, Puri MP Sambit Patra and Kandhamal MP Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, among other dignitaries and officials.
The latest transfer marks another major step in the state government’s efforts to extend financial support to women beneficiaries and ensure wider coverage under the Subhadra scheme.
