Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: The cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal has further intensified, with the weather system becoming more marked and raising the possibility of heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha in the coming days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclonic circulation, which formed on Thursday, now extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. The system is tilting southwards with height and remains active over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal.
Under the influence of the circulation, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over the same region on August 29. The development of the low-pressure system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to several parts of Odisha.
The IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rainfall in more than half of the districts in the state today. An Orange Warning has been issued for Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely.
In addition, a Yellow Warning has been issued for 19 districts for thunderstorms and rainfall, indicating the possibility of adverse weather conditions in several parts of the state.
The weather department has also issued warnings for the entire state on August 29 and 30, as the developing system is likely to influence weather conditions across Odisha.
Meanwhile, extremely heavy rainfall is likely in parts of western Odisha on August 31. The forecast has prompted concerns over waterlogging and localised disruptions, particularly in areas that receive intense rainfall.
Authorities and residents have been advised to remain alert and closely monitor the latest weather updates issued by the IMD as the system develops.
