Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), through its Heritage Cell initiative Ekamra Walks, organised a special Cycling Trail at 6:30 AM on Friday from Mayfair Sanctuary and Convention as part of the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Expo 2026.
The initiative offered delegates attending the three-day conclave an opportunity to explore Bhubaneswar beyond the conference venue, highlighting the connection between sustainable mobility, green spaces and the city’s evolving urban identity.
Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Hon’ble Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Government of Odisha, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and flagged off the ride.
Following the flag-off, dignitaries and participants cycled from Mayfair Sanctuary and Convention to Ekamra Kanan and back. The ride provided a refreshing opportunity to experience the city at a relaxed pace while enjoying its natural surroundings and lush greenery.
The Cycling Trail reflected the spirit of UMI 2026 by promoting active mobility and sustainable urban experiences. It highlighted how cycling can serve not only as an environmentally friendly mode of transport but also as a way to connect people with public spaces, green areas and the everyday character of an urban landscape.
Alongside the Cycling Trail, Ekamra Walks has curated several special experiences for UMI delegates, including Walk in the Wilderness at Deras, Heritage Trails and Bhubaneswar by Night. These guided experiences offer diverse perspectives on the capital, covering its natural landscapes, ancient Kalingan temple architecture and transformation from a historic temple city into a modern planned urban centre.
Through these initiatives, BDA aims to showcase Bhubaneswar’s rich heritage, living traditions, natural assets and contemporary urban identity. The curated experiences complement UMI’s focus on sustainable mobility and urban development by encouraging delegates to engage directly with the city and discover its many dimensions.
An initiative of BDA’s Heritage Cell, Ekamra Walks continues to create opportunities for residents and visitors to explore Bhubaneswar through guided experiences that connect its past, present and future.
