Bhubaneswar, Feb 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday unveiled the Economic Plan for the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER), prepared by NITI Aayog, at a programme held at the Convention Centre of Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. NITI Aayog Member Rajiv Gauba and CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the BCPPER region will be developed as the driving force of Odisha’s economic growth and will play a significant role in India’s broader economic progress. He highlighted the unique strengths of each city—Bhubaneswar as a technology centre, Cuttack for its business heritage, Puri for cultural and tourism prominence, and Paradip for port-led industrial development.
The plan proposes over 80 projects spanning sectors such as metal downstream industries, biotechnology, textiles, chemicals, tourism, education, and information technology, along with more than 30 policy initiatives to boost integrated regional development.
Majhi noted that the Centre has identified City Economic Regions in the 2026–27 Budget, allocating ₹5,000 crore for each, with BCPPER included. Currently contributing 19% to Odisha’s GDP, the region’s economy is projected to grow from $22.4 billion to $500 billion by 2047.
Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said similar development plans will be rolled out for other major cities as urban expansion accelerates across the state.
