Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: The Odisha Government has placed Chandbali Block Development Officer (BDO) Sanjib Kumar Mahapatra under suspension with immediate effect, as per an official order issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
According to the government order, a disciplinary proceeding is contemplated against Mahapatra. Following the decision, his services have been withdrawn from the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water (PR & DW) Department, and he has been placed under suspension under the provisions of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962.
The order states that the Governor of Odisha, exercising powers under clause (a) of sub-rule (1) of Rule 12 of the OCS (CC&A) Rules, 1962, has placed the officer under suspension with immediate effect.
As per the suspension order, Mahapatra’s headquarters during the period of suspension will be at the Collectorate, Bhadrak. He has been directed not to leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission from the Collector, Bhadrak.
The officer will also be entitled to receive a subsistence allowance during the suspension period in accordance with Rule 90 of the Odisha Service Code.
The government order, however, does not specify the allegations or circumstances that led to the proposed disciplinary proceedings against the BDO. Details regarding the nature of the proceedings are expected to emerge as the matter progresses.
The order was issued by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, by order of the Governor of Odisha. The suspension will remain effective pending further proceedings and orders of the competent authority.
