Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped at gunpoint at Behera Sahi under the Nayapalli police station limits in Bhubaneswar late Wednesday night, according to police.
The alleged incident took place at the woman’s rented accommodation, where she was staying with her elder sister. According to the complaint lodged with Nayapalli police, her sister was away from the house when the incident occurred.
The woman alleged that an unidentified man forcibly entered the rented accommodation and threatened her by placing a gun against her head before sexually assaulting her. The accused allegedly fled from the spot after committing the crime.
According to the complaint, the suspect reportedly escaped from the area by boarding an Ama Bus. Police are now examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and trying to establish the identity and movements of the accused.
Following the complaint, Nayapalli police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police teams are examining available evidence and gathering information from the locality as part of the probe.
Investigators are also scanning CCTV footage from Behera Sahi and surrounding areas to identify the suspect and trace his movements before and after the alleged crime. Footage from routes through which the accused may have travelled is also being examined.
Police are conducting further inquiries into the case and are attempting to establish the sequence of events. The identity of the accused has not yet been ascertained.
Further investigation is underway, and police are expected to take appropriate action based on the evidence collected during the probe.
