Bhubaneswar, Sep 29: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday launched simultaneous searches at seven locations linked to Umakant Samantaray, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers, Sambalpur, in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets (DA) case.
The searches are being conducted on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur. A team comprising eight Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 11 Inspectors, 11 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and other supporting personnel has been deployed for the operation.
According to the Vigilance department, searches are being carried out at properties and official premises associated with Samantaray across Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khordha districts. The operation is aimed at verifying allegations that he allegedly possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The locations being searched include his residential 3BHK flat at Sun City Apartment in Dhankauda, Sambalpur, and a duplex at Nandan Vihar on Nandankanan Road in Bhubaneswar.
Vigilance teams are also conducting searches at a building near Indus College of Engineering at Barakuda near Jatani in Bhubaneswar. In Puri district, a triple-storeyed building at Tota Behera Sahi in Baliguali is among the premises under search.
Two double-storeyed buildings in Balugaon, Khordha district, are also being searched. One is located at Subash Marg, while the other is situated at Samantaray’s native place in Ashok Nagar.
In addition, the official’s office chamber at the office of the Deputy Director, Factories and Boilers, Sambalpur, is being searched. The searches were continuing till the latest report. Details regarding any documents, valuables or other assets detected or seized during the operation are awaited.
