Bhubaneswar, May 4: In a remarkable display of advanced medical expertise, SUM Hospital Berhampur has successfully treated two rare and highly complex surgical cases that had previously been declined by multiple hospitals, offering new hope to the patients.
The first case involved a life-threatening condition of complete airway obstruction caused by severe tracheal stenosis. Doctors performed a highly specialised Single Stage Laryngotracheal Reconstruction (SSLTR), an advanced windpipe reconstruction procedure requiring exceptional precision. The surgery was conducted by a team including Dr. Priyajeet Panigrahi, Dr. Sameer Panigrahi, and Dr. Subhajeet Sahoo, marking one of the rare successful procedures of its kind in the region.
In another challenging case, a rare nerve sheath tumor in the neck was successfully removed through a multidisciplinary surgical approach. The team comprising Dr. Sudhakar Jena, Mr. Pravat Jagdev, Dr. Sairudra Puhan, and Dr. Pratyushkanti Mishra demonstrated coordinated expertise in handling the complex condition.
Hospital Director Deba Prasad Dash praised the teams, stating that precision, teamwork, and focus on patient outcomes are the pillars of success. He added that the hospital is steadily emerging as a centre for advanced and first-of-its-kind surgeries in the region.
These achievements highlight the hospital’s growing capability in delivering high-quality, patient-centric care for complex medical conditions.
