Bhubaneswar, July 23: The Odisha Government has assured the public that the COVID-19 situation in the state remains under control, emphasizing that there is no sign of any outbreak and that the currently reported cases are mild in nature, resembling common flu or seasonal influenza.
Addressing mediapersons, Director of Public Health Dr. Rabindranath Mishra said there was no reason for people to panic over the recent COVID-19 cases reported from Ganjam district.
“There is no need to panic. Nowadays, COVID-19 behaves like common influenza. We have not received any reports indicating a COVID outbreak anywhere in the state,” Dr. Mishra said.
He informed that the Health Department became aware of the recent cases in Ganjam through media reports. According to the latest information, two infected persons are under home isolation, while one patient has been admitted to a hospital for observation. He said all three patients are clinically stable and are being closely monitored by the health authorities.
The latest case involves a woman from Berhampur in Ganjam district who tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Doctors have confirmed that her condition is stable and there is no cause for concern.
The recent infections have drawn attention amid a rise in COVID-19 cases in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. However, the Odisha Health Department clarified that it is maintaining constant surveillance and monitoring the situation in accordance with the guidelines and protocols issued by the Government of India.
Health officials reiterated that there is no evidence of widespread community transmission or any highly virulent new variant circulating in the state. They advised people to continue following basic preventive measures, including maintaining hand hygiene, wearing masks in crowded places when necessary, and seeking medical advice if they develop persistent respiratory symptoms.
Authorities have assured that the overall COVID-19 situation in Odisha remains fully under control and that adequate medical preparedness is in place to handle any future developments.
