Bhubaneswar, June 6: The Odisha government has initiated a large-scale recruitment drive to fill vacancies across various state-run boards, corporations and public sector undertakings (PSUs), signalling its intent to strengthen administrative efficiency and improve the functioning of government institutions.
The Public Enterprises Department has formally begun the process by issuing a communication regarding appointments and compiling details of vacant positions across different state PSUs. According to official sources, the government has set a target of filling 1,183 vacant posts by June 30 through a time-bound recruitment process.
The move follows a comprehensive review undertaken by the state government, which had earlier directed all departments to furnish information on vacancies in boards and corporations under their jurisdiction. Departments were also asked to provide details regarding appointments made since the formation of the new government.
Data submitted by 17 departments covering 32 boards and corporations revealed that 677 appointments have been made since the present government assumed office. However, the review also highlighted significant gaps, with 17 boards and corporations reporting no recruitment activity at all during the same period.
Several important posts, including those of chairpersons in various boards and corporations, have reportedly remained vacant for nearly two years, affecting decision-making and administrative functioning. In view of this, the government has indicated that appointments to these positions will be taken up on priority.
Sources said the issue was discussed during the recent visit of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and state BJP president Manmohan Samal to New Delhi, where consultations were held with the party’s central leadership.
The government is now pushing for an accelerated and transparent recruitment process to fill long-pending vacancies and improve governance across state-owned institutions and public enterprises.
