Bhubaneswar, April 18: Emphasising the growing scope of legal education, Prithviraj Harichandan, Odisha’s Minister for Law, Works and Excise, on Saturday said that law students who pursue their studies seriously have multiple avenues to build successful careers.
Addressing the valedictory session of the two-day ‘Lok Sambad’, a national-level youth parliament organised by the SOA National Institute of Law (SNIL), faculty of legal studies of SOA Deemed to be University, he said the legal profession has evolved significantly over the years. “Law has become a serious profession, and students must carefully plan their careers. They can either practice in courts or become judicial officers,” he noted.
The event witnessed participation from around 150 law students representing states such as Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, and Odisha. Highlighting emerging opportunities, the Minister said the state government is also engaging law graduates as Research Assistants to support administrative functions.
He observed that while moot court competitions are common in law institutions, the concept of a youth parliament is relatively rare and lauded the organisers for the initiative.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, who presided over the programme, said SOA has grown into a leading multidisciplinary institution within two decades. He added that its law school has secured the 10th position nationally in NIRF rankings.
The programme also featured addresses by academic leaders, and prizes were awarded to outstanding participants.
