Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: Empathy, compassion and sensitivity are the fundamental principles of the governance system, and listening to people’s problems and ensuring their timely resolution remain the highest priorities of the Odisha government, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Monday.
Speaking to the media after attending the 20th state-level grievance hearing programme at the Chief Minister’s Grievance Hearing Cell in Unit-II, Majhi said his government was committed to standing with people in both their joys and sorrows.
The Chief Minister arrived at the grievance cell in the morning and personally heard the complaints and concerns of citizens. Ten senior ministers and secretary-level officers from various departments were also present during the hearing to facilitate immediate action on the grievances.
“Our government is a government of the people. We give the highest priority to listening to people’s problems with sensitivity and resolving them. Wherever people face problems, our government certainly reaches there,” Majhi said.
He said the government had consistently supported people during natural calamities, including floods, cyclones and droughts. The government had also declared the untimely rainfall of 2024 a natural disaster and provided assistance to affected people. An assistance package has also been announced for those affected by the current flood situation, he said.
According to an official statement, 15,327 grievances were received during the previous 19 state-level hearings, of which 14,519, or around 95 per cent, have already been resolved.
Majhi said grievance hearings were also being conducted regularly at district, tehsil and block levels. Collectors and SPs were hearing complaints at the district level, where 2,69,394 grievances had been received and heard by the end of July, with 87 per cent resolved.
He said decentralising grievance redressal had reduced unnecessary harassment for people and strengthened public confidence in the administrative system.
Before beginning the scheduled hearing, the Chief Minister met differently-abled persons and people suffering from serious illnesses waiting outside the grievance cell. He heard their concerns, accepted their petitions and directed officials to take immediate action.
