Bhubaneswar, June 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Odisha over the next six days and issued Orange and Yellow warnings for several districts, cautioning people about heavy to very heavy rainfall in different parts of the state.
According to the latest weather bulletin, monsoon activity is expected to remain active, bringing continuous rain, thunderstorms, and the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas. The IMD has advised residents to remain alert and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.
On July 1, an Orange Warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places. A Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall has also been issued for Keonjhar, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati districts.
On July 2, Keonjhar is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Mayurbhanj are likely to experience heavy rain.
The focus of intense rainfall is expected to shift to northern Odisha on July 3, with Orange Warning issued for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Heavy rainfall is also likely in Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati under Yellow Warning.
On July 4, Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Keonjhar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh may witness heavy showers.
The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar on July 5. Heavy rainfall is likely in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Khurda and Nayagarh.
On July 6, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Angul are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Koraput and Malkangiri are also likely to witness heavy rain.
The IMD has advised people, especially those living in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to remain cautious as prolonged rainfall may lead to localized flooding, traffic disruptions and waterlogging in several parts of the state.
