Bhubaneswar, July 6: Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar, Jagmohan Meena has submitted his resignation to the Odisha Government, citing personal reasons, according to official sources. The resignation of the senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has come as a surprise within the police establishment, with the State Government yet to formally accept his request.
Meena, a 2013-batch IPS officer of the Odisha cadre, reportedly tendered his resignation recently. Although the exact reasons behind his decision have not been officially disclosed, sources indicated that he may be planning to join a private company owned by one of his close relatives in Rajasthan. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding his future plans.
During his career in Odisha Police, Meena held several key assignments and earned a reputation for handling law and order and crime-related responsibilities. He served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Angul and Ganjam districts before being appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Cuttack Urban Police District. On February 28, 2025, he assumed charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar, one of the most significant policing assignments in the State.
His resignation comes at a time when the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has been under public scrutiny following the broad daylight murder of Railway Constable Soumya Ranjan Swain in the Balianta area. The incident had triggered criticism over policing and law and order in the capital city.
Despite the timing of his resignation, there is no official indication linking his decision to any recent developments. Senior officials have maintained that Meena cited personal reasons for stepping down. The State Government is expected to examine the resignation before taking a final decision. Further details regarding the matter are awaited.
