Bhubaneswar, July 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh spell of heavy rainfall across western Odisha over the next two days, prompting the issuance of an Orange Warning for eight districts on July 7. The weather office has advised district administrations to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures to minimise the impact of heavy showers.
According to the IMD’s midday bulletin, isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Subarnapur (Sonepur) and Nuapada districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday. The department has warned that intense rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, localized flooding, poor visibility and traffic disruptions in vulnerable locations.
A Yellow Warning has also been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts, where isolated heavy rainfall is expected. Residents in these districts have been advised to remain cautious and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.
The IMD has indicated that the intensity of rainfall is likely to reduce from July 8. On Wednesday, only Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts are expected to remain under a Yellow Warning for isolated heavy rainfall, while weather conditions are likely to improve in the rest of the State.
The weather office has directed district administrations in the Orange Warning districts to closely monitor low-lying and flood-prone areas, ensure proper drainage and remain prepared to respond to any emergency situation. Citizens have been urged to stay updated through official weather bulletins, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their property.
