Bhubaneswar, June 11: After enduring weeks of sweltering temperatures, oppressive humidity and heatwave-like conditions, people across Odisha are likely to get much-awaited relief as the southwest monsoon is expected to enter the state within the next three to four days.
Meteorologists have indicated that the monsoon currents are advancing rapidly and weather conditions have become increasingly favourable for their progression into Odisha. If the current trend continues, several districts may witness widespread rainfall during the coming days, bringing down temperatures and easing discomfort caused by the prolonged summer heat.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon is currently active over both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Favourable atmospheric conditions are helping the monsoon advance steadily towards eastern and northern parts of the country. Odisha is among the regions expected to experience its arrival shortly.
Weather experts have also pointed to the possibility of rain during the Raja festival, one of Odisha’s most celebrated cultural events. Such a development would add to the festive spirit while providing significant relief from the prevailing hot and humid conditions.
With the onset of the monsoon, rainfall activity is expected to increase across most parts of the state. Day temperatures are likely to fall gradually, while cloud cover and intermittent showers may create more pleasant weather conditions.
The expected rains are also being welcomed by the farming community, as timely monsoon showers are crucial for agricultural activities and the upcoming kharif season.
For residents who have struggled through weeks of extreme heat and high humidity, the approaching monsoon comes as a welcome change and a sign of relief from one of the harshest spells of summer weather this year.
