Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: Odisha is witnessing a noticeable rise in temperatures over the past four days, with coastal areas recording an increase of around 3°C and interior districts experiencing a sharper rise of up to 7°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The sudden change has brought warmer mornings and afternoons across the state.
As per IMD data recorded at 5:30 am today, several districts reported significant temperature hikes. Jharsuguda recorded 14°C, marking a steep increase of 7.2°C. Keonjhar also witnessed a sharp rise, with the temperature touching 14.6°C, up by 5.2°C. The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 14.6°C as well, showing an increase of 2.2°C.
Coastal towns have also seen a steady warming trend. Paradip recorded 15.4°C, up by 3°C, while Balasore registered 16°C, also a 3°C rise. Chandbali saw a notable jump of 4°C, reaching 16.2°C. Gopalpur stood at 16.8°C, up by 1.4°C, and Puri recorded 18.4°C, a rise of 2.4°C.
IMD officials attributed this warming trend to active western disturbances affecting the region’s weather pattern.
