Bhubaneswar, April 27: In a swift and coordinated operation, Commissionerate Police rescued two minor girls from Nepal who were allegedly trafficked for forced prostitution and confined in a hotel in Chandrasekharpur area of Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, both girls, aged below 18, were lured with false promises of employment in India. Instead of jobs, they were forced into the flesh trade by traffickers. Investigations revealed a disturbing transit route—after crossing the Nepal border, the girls were first taken to Kolkata, then shifted to Delhi, and finally brought by train to Bhubaneswar, where they were kept in a hotel.
Acting on a tip-off from a local youth, police conducted a raid on April 22 and rescued the victims. They were immediately shifted to a short-stay home in Chandrasekharpur for care, protection, and counselling.
Preliminary findings indicate the girls had left home seeking better opportunities but fell prey to traffickers. The main accused managed to escape and remains absconding, prompting a manhunt.
Police are coordinating with authorities in Nepal to trace the victims’ families and ensure safe repatriation. Meanwhile, investigators are probing a possible interstate trafficking network, examining links to local rackets, and questioning individuals connected to the case.
