Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: A minor derailment involving the Chennai–New Jalpaiguri Express occurred near Jakhapura railway station in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday morning, triggering a brief rail safety scare. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, East Coast Railway (ECoR) officials confirmed.
According to an official statement, Train No. 22611 (MAS–NJP) Chennai–New Jalpaiguri Express derailed at around 8:51 am while passing through Jajpur Yard (JKPR). One air-conditioned coach and two general coaches slipped off the tracks within yard limits. Railway authorities noted that the train was moving at a very slow speed at the time of the incident, which helped prevent a major mishap.
Immediately after receiving information, Accident Relief Trains (ART) from Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road, along with Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) from Khurda Road, were dispatched by 8:53 am to assist in restoration and emergency response.
Senior railway officials reached the site and are closely supervising track restoration and safety checks. Efforts are underway to normalize train movement in the հատված. The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained, officials added, with an inquiry initiated.
