Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: The Southwest Monsoon has further withdrawn from parts of Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday stating that conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for its complete withdrawal from the state in the coming days.
According to the latest IMD update, the Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from the remaining parts of Maharashtra, some parts of Goa, Karnataka, Telangana and Odisha, along with some more areas of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The meteorological department said the line of withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon now passes through 27.5°N/86.5°E, Supaul, Ranchi, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Bijapur, Hyderabad, Belagavi, Panjim and 15°N/72°E.
With the latest withdrawal, the monsoon has officially retreated from Sundargarh and Bargarh districts and adjoining areas of western Odisha. The development indicates that the four-month-long rainy season is gradually drawing to a close across the state.
The IMD further said atmospheric conditions are becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from some more parts of eastern India and the Northern Peninsula, as well as many parts of northeast India, during the next three to four days.
The monsoon withdrawal is expected to progress steadily across Odisha over the next few days. Once the process is completed, the state will formally mark the end of the Southwest Monsoon season, paving the way for the transition towards predominantly post-monsoon weather conditions.
The withdrawal also signals the gradual shift in Odisha’s weather pattern, with rainfall activity expected to reduce as the monsoon system retreats from the region.
