Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: A three-day International Conference on Computational Mathematics for Engineering Sciences and Healthcare (ICCMESH-2026) commenced on Thursday at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), faculty of engineering of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University, bringing together leading academicians, researchers, scientists and industry experts from India and abroad.
Organised by the Department of Mathematics, the conference aims to provide a global platform for discussing the latest advancements in computational mathematics and its applications in engineering, healthcare and interdisciplinary sciences. It also seeks to promote the exchange of innovative ideas, dissemination of cutting-edge research and the development of collaborative partnerships among experts from diverse disciplines.
The inaugural session was presided over by SOA Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, while Prof. Sanjeewa Perera, Chair Professor of Mathematics and Director of the Centre for Mathematical Modeling at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, attended as the Chief Guest. Prof. Manjula Das, Controller of Examinations, SOA, was the Guest of Honour.
Among those present were Prof. Pradeep Kumar Sahoo, Dean of ITER; Prof. Sunita Chand, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Organising Chair of ICCMESH-2026; Prof. Mitali Madhusmita Nayak, Convener; and Co-conveners Dr. Saubhagya Kumar Sahoo and Dr. Pinaki Prasad Kar.
Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Perera highlighted the transformative role of computational mathematics, mathematical modelling and artificial intelligence in solving complex global challenges, particularly in public healthcare and infectious disease management. He said advances in computational sciences are increasingly vital for developing innovative, evidence-based solutions to real-world problems.
In his presidential address, Prof. Nanda stressed the growing importance of computational sciences in driving technological innovation and addressing multidisciplinary challenges. Reaffirming SOA’s commitment to academic excellence, he said the university would continue to encourage high-quality research, innovation and international collaborations to generate impactful scientific outcomes.
During the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Perera was felicitated with a memento in recognition of his outstanding contributions to mathematics. The conference abstract book was also formally released, marking the official inauguration of ICCMESH-2026.
The conference features an impressive lineup of distinguished keynote speakers and invited experts, including Prof. Dumitru Baleanu, a globally renowned expert in fractional calculus and mathematical physics; Prof. Millie Pant of IIT Roorkee; Prof. Prashant Kumar Srivastava of IIT Patna; and eminent researchers from IIT Madras, IIT Mandi, IIEST Shibpur, Symbiosis International University, IIT Ropar, IIT Indore and IIT Guwahati.
Over the next three days, participants will engage in keynote lectures, invited talks, technical paper presentations and interactive scientific sessions covering emerging areas such as computational mathematics, artificial intelligence, optimisation, mathematical modelling, healthcare analytics and data-driven scientific research. The conference has attracted faculty members, research scholars, students and professionals from premier institutions in India and overseas, providing a vibrant platform for knowledge sharing, academic networking and fostering future research collaborations.
