Bhubaneswar, May 30: Bhubaneswar Police have arrested six persons in connection with the death of a youth in a suspected hit-and-run case in the Niladri Vihar area of the city. Investigators believe the incident may have been the outcome of a personal rivalry, with a possible triangular love affair emerging as one of the key angles under investigation.
The incident took place late on Friday night near ATM Chhak in Niladri Vihar when a motorcycle carrying three youths was allegedly struck from behind by a Thar SUV. The impact proved fatal for one of the riders, who died on the spot, while the two others sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagmohan Meena said the deceased was a resident of Kaipadar in Khurda district. He confirmed that six accused persons have been arrested and will be produced before a court.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident was preceded by an altercation involving the deceased, his associates, members of the accused group, and the owner of a lassi shop. Police suspect that the dispute may have originated from personal differences and are examining whether a love triangle played a role in escalating tensions.
“It appears that an argument broke out between the groups, following which they chased each other, ultimately leading to the fatal incident,” the DCP said.
Investigators allege that during the chase, the Thar vehicle rammed the motorcycle carrying the three youths. Police have seized the vehicle involved in the incident and registered a murder case at Chandrasekharpur Police Station based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s family.
Further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and determine the involvement of all accused persons.
